The Challenge

AnywhereWorks is remote work in its truest form, a team spread across the UK, Poland, the US, and India, building products that help other teams collaborate better, wherever they are. They were looking to hire a Product Designer to join that global team, reporting to Sebastian, Head of Design.

The team was looking for a Product Designer with exceptional design craft. Strong UX fundamentals, visual craft, problem-solving, and comfort with design systems and front-end were all non-negotiable

Our Approach

The clarity of the brief helped, but the bar itself was high,  the team wanted craft, not just competence, and they knew it when they saw it. From our first conversation with Michael Payne, Co-Founder, and his teammate Alicia, it was clear this was a team that valued thoughtfulness, Michael's grasp of the Indian market alone told us a lot about how globally-minded they were.

We ran a wide search to give ourselves the best shot at that bar, sharing 31 profiles over the course of the search. Throughout, the team stayed closely involved, detailed feedback on every profile, search parameters fine-tuned after candidate conversations, and our input folded into their own process as it evolved, including when they introduced a take-home design assignment partway through. Candidates were compensated for their time on that assignment and given full support while working through it.

Outcome & What Made It Work

The search closed with Amit Kumar joining AnywhereWorks as Product Designer.

What stood out most through the process was how AnywhereWorks operated as a team. The employee-first, learning-oriented culture wasn't just something candidates were told about in interviews, it showed up in how the team ran the hiring process itself, feedback, compensation, and all. Sustainability was built into how they operate, not bolted on as messaging.

One more thing stood out: in a search where LinkedIn profiles usually do a lot of the early talking, AnywhereWorks kept a notably low profile online. It made for conversations that stayed focused on the work and the person, rather than the resume,  a good reflection of the same principles they brought to the hire itself.
